The following reports detail participation and performance for the 1999 AP Exam administration. That year, 685,981 candidates took 1,122,414 AP Exams, the first time more than one million exams were administered in the United States. These candidates represented 12,229 U.S. secondary schools. Total program participation also included 27,101 examinations (for a global total of 1,149,515 exams) taken by 18,317 candidates from approximately 657 schools abroad.
