The following reports detail participation and performance for the 1998 AP Exam administration, the first time more than one million exams were administered worldwide. That year, 618,257 candidates took 991,952 AP Exams. These candidates represented 11,848 U.S. secondary schools. Total program participation also included 24,705 examinations (for a global total of 1,016,657 exams) taken by 16,911 candidates from approximately 638 schools abroad.
